Casey Ellsworth Receives DAISY Award at UNC Health Rockingham for Extraordinary Patient Care
EDEN, N.C., September 16, 2024 - Casey Ellsworth, a registered nurse, at UNC Health Rockingham was recently recognized with the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses. Hospital nursing leadership was joined by Ellsworth’s family and senior administrators surprised her on the unit for a ceremony in recognition of her contributions to the team.
Casey’s nominator, a former patient, described her as knowledgeable, calm and confident in her approach. The patient also shared, “I had heard good things about UNC Health Rockingham in Eden, NC so I decided to give it a try and I am glad I did. Casey was one of my nurses and she went out of her way to make me feel comfortable and well cared for. She made time to keep me informed of any upcoming procedures and tests. She was one of the best nurses I have ever encountered. She is truly an extraordinary nurse!”
Ellsworth works as an inpatient nurse on the medical/surgical unit at UNC Health Rockingham. She joined the team in 2022 and is known for her high energy and kind approach when working with patients and families.
“To be recognized with the DAISY Award is a huge honor,” said Ellsworth. “I always do my best to give 110% to my patients and my coworkers no matter what else may be going on personally. To know that my patients are seeing and feeling that effort is very satisfying.”
The DAISY Foundation was established in 1999 by the family of J. Patrick Barnes who died from complications of the autoimmune disease Idiopathic Thrombocytopenia Purpura (ITP) at the age of thirty-three. His family wanted a meaningful way to recognize and honor nurses who, like those caring for Patrick and his family, provide excellent clinical care while showing great compassion for their patients. DAISY is an acronym for Diseases Attacking the Immune SYstem.
