Student Health Centers
Our mission is "to improve the health and school performance of Rockingham County students by providing comprehensive health care through education, prevention, treatment, and referral."
We are committed to providing affordable, accessible physical and mental health care to all enrolled high school students.
The health centers are located in each of the four high schools in Rockingham County, North Carolina: McMichael High School, Morehead High School, Reidsville High School and Rockingham County High School.
About Us
The Rockingham County Student Health Centers were opened in August 1994 to improve the health and school performance of Rockingham County students by providing comprehensive health care through education, treatment, prevention and referral. They were designed to close the gaps that existed in adolescent health services by meeting the health care needs of adolescents in school. Adolescents in this county have traditionally been medically underserved. In addition, we provide wellness programs and onsite medical treatments to students and staff. On-site care keeps students in the classroom longer and allows teachers to stay at work. Linking schools and health care boosts academic success and keeping a teacher on the job reduces expenses. And, when students can be seen by a medical professional at their schools, parents can stay on their jobs instead of leaving work to take a child to the doctor.
One of the unique aspects of this program is the fact that it is truly a community effort. The Student Health Center staff are all employees of UNC Health Rockingham but in addition the operation of the centers is a joint effort of Cone Health Annie Penn Hospital and the Rockingham County School System. Both hospitals are not for profit. The Rockingham County Department of Health and Human Services is another community partner. The health centers are a United Way Agency and receive funding from the United Way of Rockingham County. The Reidsville Area Foundation is a generous supporter of the health centers and the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, and the NC Office of Rural Health are currently providing grant support.
