Carlotta Gilmore, a certified nurse aid, was honored with the BEE award for Extraordinary Patient Care at UNC Health Rockingham at a recent surprise ceremony. She was nominated by a patient’s family for her warmth and care when they were not able to stay at the hospital. They described her as comforting, compassionate and professional.

Casey Ellsworth, a registered nurse, at UNC Health Rockingham was recently recognized with the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses. Hospital nursing leadership was joined by Ellsworth’s family and senior administrators surprised her on the unit for a ceremony in recognition of her contributions to the team.

The UNC Health Rockingham Foundation Board of Directors welcomes three local leaders for an initial three-year term of service: Nathan Kelley, DPT, Ingrid McCraw and Carlissa Wall. The board is comprised of business leaders and entrepreneurs, community advocates and health professionals focused on meeting the philanthropic needs of UNC Health Rockingham, its patients and care teams.

UNC Health Rockingham has partnered with UNC’s Otolaryngology Mobile Speech and Hearing Clinic to ensure important hearing tests and speech assessments are available to children in Rockingham County. On Thursday, August 27, the mobile clinic will be onsite for the first of its monthly visits with two available exam spaces inside the unit. Appointments are required and may be made through a referring physician.

Zachary Lewis, a previous summer youth volunteer at UNC Health Rockingham, returns to the hospital as part of the Golden LEAF Foundation’s Rural Internship Initiative.

During Hospital Week 2024, UNC Health Rockingham Social Worker Taylor Eggleston was honored with the BEE Award for Exceptional Staff in recognition for her extraordinary work to support patients in need. Her nomination came after working diligently for months for a child with complex needs who was being held in the emergency department until a behavioral health placement could be secured.

Carolyn Torango, RN, was honored with The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses during UNC Health Rockingham’s Hospital Week celebration. Hospital nursing leadership along with senior administrators gathered on the unit to celebrate Torango with her fellow night-shift nursing and hospitalist teammates.
